Whose Fool Are You?

free christian music download
MORE TO SAY: Sometimes, things just happen. One such thing was my fortuitous meeting with the remarkable Stephanie Galietta; one of those exceptional people who spreads light and laughter wherever she goes – and happens to be an exceptional singer, as well. Not long after I met Steph, I began to imagine her singing some of my songs. A short while later, she was! Then I began imagining her singing on my next album. A short while later, she did! The result is Whose Fool Are You? which we created in the studio of my dear friend Tom Rowe. Whose Fool was recorded over the course of a particularly lovely and snowy Maine winter and contributing to our musical arsenal were Tom, his son Dave, and – on lead guitar – Jim Harding, as well as some very vocal “peepers,” those heralds of spring that joyfully proclaim that – even in Maine – winter must come to an end. As with all my songs, each of those on Whose Fool results from personal experience or – as with Katherine’s Song is drawn from the experience of those close to me. These are probably my most intimate songs until Songs from the Wilderness I hope you find them enjoyable and meaningful. David A. Crossman

COVER ME

Jesus I have come to You
From so far away
If I should lay down at your feet
Will You cover me?
Will You cover me?

From a place of darkness
To a world of light
Where I can see, all my sin
Will You redeem me?
Can You make me clean?

Chorus

I owe a debt I cannot pay
And I know You are able
To save me
Call me by Your name
And cover me, Cover me

I’ve foresaken everything
Familiar to me
To seize a promise I believe
All I have is You
Father, make me new

Chorus

PUT ON YOUR ARMOR

Put on your armor, pick up your shield
Put on your helmet
Take your stand and do not yield
This is a battle
And you are marked to die

Put down your comfort, open your eyes
Here come the arrows
And you’re standin’ dumb and blind
This is a battle
And you are marked to die

Whatchyou gonna do
When the sky start’s fallin’?
Where you gonna run
When your heart gives out?
What’s gonna happen
When your faith collapses?
And you’re haunted by the shapes
In the shadows of doubt?

Cut off the TV, reclaim your mind
Open your Bible
For there’s no one left behind
For in this battle, you either fight or die

If you could look at yourself
Through spiritual eyes
You’d see all hell, arrayed against you
And your soul on the line
You’d see the chains and the snares
Everywhere you step
You’d see sights that might scare you to death

Put on your armor, pick up your sword
Defend your children
Make them warriors for the Lord
For in this battle they either fight or die

Chorus

NEVER TOO LATE

Lord I’ve been walking down
The road that leads away, so long
I guess it’s much too late to change
Oh, but if I could
If falling on my knees right now
Could somehow
Take this burden from my heart
If it weren’t too late for me
To somehow start again
Then I would be on my knees
Right now

Chorus

It’s never too late to turn around
As long as you have breath
Then you can pray
And when you’ve said
All you can think to say
Say, “Lord, have mercy on me
A sinner
My life, from this moment on
Is not my own
Although I may reap what I have sown
Though the ones who love me
Turn to go.
Go
None can take this mercy from me

For this mercy is mine. Mine
My forgiveness
This mercy is mine. Mine
And none can take this mercy from me
None can take this mercy…from me

AS FOR THE ONE

(Inspired by Psalm 32)
(Nonsense lyrics interspersed
With the names of God)

As for the one
Who trusts in God
He will get kindness

ABIDING JOY

There’s a deep abiding joy
That comes from deep inside
A joy so deep that sometimes
I cry

Silent tears, for sacred joy
That cannot be denied
A joy so sweet that sometimes,
Sometimes

I don’t suppose I’ll ever know
That joy day after day
Year after year
Until my time has come and gone

But nonetheless that time or two
I’ve touched the heart of God
Gives me the will
Gives me the strength
To carry on

‘Til the deep eternal joy
Calls to the joy in me
Awakes the joy that now
Just sleeps

WHO IS THIS MAN?

Who do they say is this wise man
That everyone is following?
Some say the prophet, Elijah
Some say that he would be a king
Who is this man?

I’ve looked in his eyes
For just a moment
Caught a fleeting glimpse
Across a see of faces
And the look in his eyes
In that brief moment
Caused a chaos and confusion
In my soul
Who is this man?

You should see the people
Crowd around him
As if his every word to them
Was breath
Though he speaks to them
In parables and riddles
Promising a greater life
In death
Who is this man?

Ooh, Jesus
How does just your being there
Demand so much of me?
How is it in bondage to your words
They find a freedom?

Please explain this feeling
This strange stirring deep inside
I’m a fugitive within myself
There’s nowhere I can hide
Who is this man?

Who shall I say is this wise man
That everyone is following?
Some say a prophet, a good man
Some say he’s nothing less
Than everything
Who is this man?

I looked in his eyes
For just a moment
As he hung there, bleeding dying
On the tree
And I heard him when he said
“Father, forgive them.”
And I felt somehow
He was forgiving me
Who is this man?

FRUIT OF THE SEED

“They’re not human,”
That’s what the Conquistadors
Said to justify the slaughter of the Indians
And somewhere inside
That small voice that cried
“This is wrong. This is wrong!”
Would subside
For the shouting was loud and long
So they twisted the law
‘Til the law agreed
And we are the fruit of the seed.

“They’re not human,”
That’s what once race would say
Said to justify their enslavement of another
And somewhere inside
That small voice that cried
“This is wrong. This is wrong!”
Would subside
For the shouting was loud and long
So they twisted the law
‘Til the law agreed
And we are the fruit of the seed.

“They’re not equal,”
That’s what they said
Said to justify the
Second-class status of women
And somewhere inside
That small voice that cried

“This is wrong. This is wrong!”
Would subside
For the shouting was loud and long
So they twisted the law
‘Til the law agreed
And we are the fruit of the seed.

“They’re not human,”
That’s what the Nazis
Said to justify the slaughter of Jews,
Gypsies, Poles, and Czechs
And somewhere inside
That small voice that cried
“This is wrong. This is wrong!”
Would subside
For the shouting was loud and long
So they twisted the law
‘Til the law agreed
And we are the fruit of the seed.

“They’re not human,”
That’s what they say to justify
The sacrifice of the unborn
On the shadowy alter of “rights”
And somewhere inside
That small voice that cries
“This is wrong. This is wrong!”
Is subsiding
For the shouting was loud and long
So we twist the law
‘Til the law agrees
And we are the fruit of the seed.

And history is a merciless judge

The point is this: No segment of society
However large, however vocal
Must be allowed to determine
The worth of another
However small
However defenseless
For in so doing we open a grave for us all
And, lest we forget – yet again
The answer to the question
“Am I my brother’s keeper?”
Is “Yes.”

KATHERINE’S SONG

How long is this night?
How much longer, ‘til it is light?
Stay by my side
So, when I’m afraid
I can feel You
Leading the way
Into a bright new day

And Jesus I cannot
Lift this cross alone
This is the deepest hurt
My heart has ever known

Here in the whirlpool
I reach out my hand
Pull me to safety, Father
Drag me back to land

And then I’ll know
Someday this road will end

But how long is this road?
How much farther
Have I to go?
God only knows

But, just when I feel lost
When I feet that
I can’t go on
Every last hope is gone

Someone says something
Somebody calls
Some Don Quixote
Stumbles over the walls

Some secret meaning
In one careless phrase
Opens my prison
And lets in the light of day

And then I know
Someday this road will end

SUDDENLY

Suddenly I see that I have been a parody of me
Nothing but a shell whose soul was stilled
Waiting for a troubling of the will
But now I see myself a different way
No, I am not the same
For I have been purchased by God

Chorus

Now there is hope
Where once was just an endless
Chain of days
A hopeless story written on the rain
Now there is hope
Now there’s forgiveness
Now there is peace
Now there is life

All at once it seems I have been
The captive of my dreams
Nothing but a dying soul in need
Waiting to be shaken from my sleep
But now I see
The world with open eyes
How I was mesmerized
Now I have been purchased by God

Chorus

JUST LIKE YOU

Every word on my lips
Just like You
Every thought in my heart
Just like You
Every life that I touch
Just like You
Jesus how much I want to be
Just like You

Every day that goes by
Just like You
Every tear that I dry
Just like You
Every hurt that I heal
Just like You
Jesus how much I want to be
Just like You
Just like You,

I Want to yield regardless of the cost
Just like You, I
Want to have the faith
To bear my cross
Just like You

FAITH

Faith seldom sees with it eyes
Seldom hears a word
Or feels the wounds in His side
Lord, if only my
Poor feeble faith could learn to fly
No compromise
No compromise

Faith won’t demand any proof
Won’t require signs
To keep believing it’s true
Lord, if only my
Poor feeble faith could learn to fly
No compromise
No compromise

Chorus

Even if the things I most believe
Never come to pass for me to see
Even if I die without
A holy promise filled
He will, in time, He will

Faith is the author of hope
Hope the seed of trust
And trust, the cradle of souls
Father, help me see
The faith that You require of me
No compromise
No compromise

Chorus

FRUIT INSPECTOR

Don’t matter what you say
Don’t matter where you go
Don’t matter who you pay, babe
Don’t matter who you know

Chorus

‘Cause when the Fruit Inspector
Comes to check your tree
He’ll shake you from the branches
To the roots, believe me
When the fruit starts fallin’, baby
That’s when your faith hits the fan

Chorus

Don’t matter if you’re immersed
Or if you speak in tongues
Or where you go to church, babe
Or where you’re comin’ from

Chorus

If you don’t walk your talk
If you don’t live like you believe
Don’t be surprised if somebody
Comes along and prunes your tree (2X)

Don’t matter what you plan
Don’t matter what you feel
Don’t matter what you intend, babe
Until you make it real

Chorus

Don’t matter when you pray
Or how you sing your hymns
‘Cause on the Judgement Day, babe
It’s only you and Him
(Chorus)

MASTER OF DISTANCE

Master of distance
Author of time
Lord of the harvest
Turn water to wine
But most amazing
Of all You have done
Is taking a sinner like me
You took a sinner like me
You took a sinner like me
And made him your son

You were never so far away
That you couldn’t hear me call
Never so far away, after all
You were never so far away
You couldn’t hear my softest prayer
Never so far away

You were there
And when I need a place of peace
A harbor of quiet in the storm
You always have time enough for me
And all of my prayers
You’re close enough to care

THE LAME DANCE

Day after day, year after year
Wise men have said that the Kingdom is near
But as the seasons come in and go out
I can’t help but wonder what life is about

Jesus tell me, are you the one
Who will give meaning to me?
Are you the one who was promised to come
Or do we await someone else?
Jesus I pray You will meet me today
‘Cause I’ve lost all faithin myself

And He said:

“The lame dance,
While the deaf sing
And the blind look on and laugh

Don’t be a reed
Swayed by the wind
Be the salt, be the wheat, not the chaff

(Repeat until you get tired)

    Hi Pamela,

As you may have ascertained, either I don’t check my messages very often, or I’m just terribly rude. Or maybe it’s just terribly rude of me not to check my messages more often… Be that as it may, please accept my humble and heartfelt apologies for not having gotten back to you in a timely fashion. As for Whose Fool Are You?, there is no song by that title, it’s just the name of the album. I look forward to reading your testimonial – I think Whose Fool Are You? is a great title. Incidentally, my female vocal partner on that album. Stephanie Galietta, also came from a cult background. I’m sure she’d like to read it as well. Have you finished it, and is it available? Let me know. Godspeed.

is there a song entitled Whose Fool Are You? I ask because that is the working title of my testimony of God’s transferring my husband and I from a cult to His glorious kingdom. I want to read the lyrics, if there are any. Thank you.
