(Halloween) You Should Be in Bed

You Should Be In Bed is part of The Putterboobin Suite, which follows the adventures of Minjin as she attempts to convince her fellow Putterboobins – a traditionally timorous offshoot of the elf family – to venture beyond those hedges of their own making that circumscribe their world at the top of the hill. But more about that in the near future. This particular song, as I was about to say before I sidetracked myself, was recorded at Millstream Studios in Cheltenham, England. It was not intended as a Halloween song, but when one of my granddaughters heard it she said “That’s a Halloween song, Pops!” (She’s a very perspicacious child). So that, for the time being, is what it is. And here it is. Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics:

YOU SHOULD BE IN BED:

When you’re out in the forest and it’s late at night
Your mind plays tricks, you can’t believe your eyes, it’s fright’nin’
You start seein’ things and hearin’ sounds
But whatever was there isn’t there when you turn
It’s gone like light’nin’

You’d better be quiet, don’t make any noise
Don’t cry out, don’t scream
Don’t look at the shadows…

When you’re out in the forest in the bright moonlight
And things with eyes go floatin’ by without a sound with toothy smiles

You shouldda stayed at home
You should be in bed
With all of the covers pulled over your head

But you’re out in the forest and it’s late at night
Don’t be afraid. At least you’re not alone, no. Oh no
‘Cause out in the forest there’s quite a crowd of
Things with eyes and knobby knees
And curly claws, that hang from trees

You shouldda stayed at home
You should be in bed
With all of the covers pulled over your head
With all of the covers pulled over your head!
